Push the Boat Out

19 May 2018 10:00 - 16:00

Bewl Water

All visitors, young and old, whatever their level of fitness, are invited to join us for a taster session with an experienced helm. There will be a variety of boats waiting to take you on the water, free of charge.

Mariners of Bewl will be there too, giving taster sails in their Lugger and displaying their fleet of Sailability dinghies. Their approach is all about integration, with everybody getting involved, so that the disabled and able-bodied can get afloat and enjoy sailing together.

Refreshments will be available throughout the day, and members of Bewl Sailing Association will be on hand to talk about the sport they love and answer any questions you may have.

When sailing you can sometimes get wet, so it's advisable to bring a waterproof jacket, a spare set of clothes, old shoes and a towel. You can use our comfortable changing rooms, and buoyancy aids will be provided.

If you're not free on Saturday 19th, come and watch the racing on a Sunday morning and chat to the helms and crews before or after racing and let us share our enthusiasm for sailing with you.

Bewl Water is a fantastic place to sail whether you want a relaxing cruise with friends, competitive racing, or a simple blast across the 770 acre lake. The reservoir has an irregular shape and is big enough to fulfil whatever dream you have of dinghy sailing – you can gently explore quiet little creeks, or satisfy your desire for speed in competitive racing with some of the most challenging courses in the South East. An additional benefit and perhaps reassurance is that you can always see dry land and there are no tides to deal with! Entry to the site costs just £2 per car.
