March Update

13 Mar 2018

With the water level at 96% and the refurbished pontoons back in action, it’s a good time to dust off the cobwebs and come for a sail at Bewl Water!

Racing

The Spring series started on Sunday 11th March with three back-to-back races in the morning, so why not come along this week and give it a go. All classes of boat welcome, or if you’d like to try your hand at crewing in a Flying Fifteen, just let us know. The full programme for 2018 can be found here.

Bewl Blaster – 4th March

The BSA Race Officer, John Mansel-Smith, organised three back-to-back races and places changed several times but, on handicap, Matt Cox was the overall winner in his Laser, closely followed by Simon Dodds from Hythe and Saltwood Sailing Club in his RS100. Phil Carter came third in his Laser. You can see the full report with photos at Yachts and Yachting online.

Heron Open Meeting 12th May

This a new event in our calendar and we look forward to welcoming Heron sailors from Bewl and other clubs. If you know anyone who sails a Heron, please encourage them to come along.

Push the Boat Out – 19th May

Bewl Sailing Association and Bewl Water are joining forces for the RYA’s national 'Push the Boat Out' event, offering visitors the chance to have a go at sailing with an experienced helm. Please let us know if you are able to assist on the day.

Have-a-Go at Racing – Spring Holiday Monday 28th May

If you’ve always wanted to try racing, but don’t know how to get started, why not come along for some coaching in the morning, followed by some friendly races in the afternoon?

2000 Class Open Meeting – 7th July

The 2000 Class is returning to Bewl for part of its Southern Traveller series. We hope that the 2000s in the boat park will come and fly the flag for Bewl, along with a good number of visitors.

Wednesday Evening and Saturday Sailing Sessions

BSA plans to operate a patrol boat from June to early September, to encourage more sailors out onto the water. If you have RYA Power Boat Level 2 and are able to assist with this, we would be pleased to hear from you.

Special Groups

The hardy Optimist sailors have been training and competing all through the winter, and the Windsurfers have enjoyed the recent brisk breezes. The Midweekers start their weekly afternoon sailing sessions on Wednesday 28th March and the Mariners of Bewl have their shakedown cruise on Saturday 7th April.

Fun at Bewl Week

Please put 28th July to 4th August in your diaries for this year’s fun sailing and camping event. Family and friends are invited to come along for games on the water and a lively social programme. Tents, motorhomes and caravans are welcome. At the end of the week, you can take part in the BSA Mid-summer regatta to be held on 5th August. Contact Mo Clayton at tillergirl2913@gmail.com for more information.
