Sixteen boats jockeyed for position on the start line. Some of the regular Lasers and Flying Fifteens were joined by three MoB boats, a Midweeker, some visiting youth sailors, another visitor and a club member who wanted to join in the fun. This is the first time since the re-establishment of sailing at Bewl that all the groups have raced together.

The wind was its usual fickle self, as Robin Taylor discovered. He led the fleet for two laps and then found a hole! Paddy McFarlan, however, in his usual canny fashion took advantage of every wind shift, worked his way through the fleet and finally won the race. The Fifteens did not totally dominate the event – Phil Carter-Haines also knows Bewl well and came fourth on handicap in his Laser. Full results are shown below.

In the afternoon Mo Clayton organised a fun peg race which was enjoyed by a smaller fleet. This time Robin managed to avoid all holes in the wind to win.

MSL laid on a barbecue which was well received by sailors and members of the public visiting Bewl. MSL put £1 of the burger price into the Bart’s Bash fund which, with very generous donations from sailors, finally reached a magnificent total of £240.
